The Substance Use and Mental Health Leadership Council of RI Announces
Training Resources And Information Network of RI (TRAIN RI) Initiative
Warwick, RI – The Substance Use and Mental Health Leadership Council (SUMHLC) has announced a pilot training program designed to address workforce needs in Rhode Island. The Training Resources and Information Network of RI (TRAIN RI) will offer a range of affordable courses taught by experienced instructors that cover essential topics for professionals in mental health and substance use addiction. TRAIN RI will offer CEUs for professionals looking to renew or obtain their professional licenses.

“In our continuous efforts to enhance accessibility, engagement, and flexibility for the staff we serve, we are introducing TRAIN RI,” said John Tassoni, President and CEO of SUMHLC.

“These trainings are crucial for helping staff and private practice clinicians working toward their license or maintaining their license renewal,” he added.
In the midst of a growing crisis surrounding addiction and behavioral health, these vital trainings will be conducted by experienced instructors who understand the complexities of mental health and substance use treatment and prevention. Enhancing access to training, education, and resources for staff is essential, as many engage with some of the most vulnerable individuals in our communities.

“Through this innovative initiative, we will identify trainings for emerging trends as well as the mandatory trainings to obtain and renew licensure. We are optimistic about partnering with organizations beyond the direct field of behavioral health, including the RI Police Chiefs Association and local trade unions. This will truly be a groundbreaking approach to training in our state,” concluded Tassoni.
