Ethical and Liability Issues

Description:This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of ethical and liability issues related to substance abuse treatment and intervention. Ethical and liability issues will be reviewed concerning work with individuals, families and groups. Program topics will include: confidentiality and privacy, boundaries and dual relationships, conflicts of interest, negligent intervention, use of technology and social media, impaired professionals, consultation, supervision, client records and termination of treatment. Emphasis will be on strategies for preventing ethical dilemmas and liability risks. Curriculum meets chemical dependency certification.

Navigating Disability and Sexuality for Service Providers

Description: Participants will identify and practice using professional boundaries with clients to decrease conflict and improve outcomes. Participants will obtain information to support the development of core skills: consent, privacy, assertiveness, understanding types of relationships, and boundaries. Participants will also learn how to intervene and redirect inappropriate behavior in public.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Core Concepts and Application

Description: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment approach for working with a wide range of presenting problems. This workshop will provide an overview of the DBT model as well as ways to effectively apply the skills across a wide range of settings. Theoretical basis and empirical evidence supporting DBT will be reviewed. Skills from each of the four DBT modules will be illustrated.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

Description:This workshop will provide participants with a thorough review of the history of medication-assisted treatment. Participants will be able to examine the neuro-biology of opioid dependence, current trends and affected demographics. The training will also provide a discussion on current trends regarding illicit substances and emerging adulterants at the street level.

Dancing In The Grey – A Guide To Peer-Based Ethical Decision Making

Description: This TWO-DAY training (totaling six-hours) will provide participants with an in-depth training for recertification for Certified Peer Recovery Specialists in Rhode Island.  Dancing in the Grey will review ethical codes and introduce new ethical scenarios requiring interaction, in-depth discussion, and resolution.  We will review the Guiding Principles of Recovery and how they relate to ethical decision-making.  We will also explore peer conduct in various recovery and service providers communities.Â

Diversity in Supervision

Description:This workshop will discuss the growing diversity in RI and the US and how it is impacting the mental health profession. Participants will learn about how issues of diversity show up in the supervisee and supervisor relationship. Participants will also learn strategies on how to affirm and empower supervisees, as well as how to address power dynamics within the relationship.

Understanding and Applying 42 CFR and HIPAA

Description:This three-hour, one-day virtual workshop will provide participants with a detailed review of 42 CFR Part 2, and a summative overview of HIPAA, the HITECH Act, and the CARES Act, with special emphasis paid to comparing the privacy-related requirements of 42 CFR Part 2 to the mandates included these other privacy-related federal statutes. Workshop participants will also be introduced to an evidenced-based model that can be helpful when it is necessary to resolve privacy-related ethical dilemmas that may arise from time to time.
